What is Skoolie U.P.?
A gathering of converted school buses, a.k.a. skoolies, and fellow travelers at a community camping event located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan every summer.
Who can come to Skoolie U.P.?
Anyone with a way to camp! Bring your bus, rv, tent, car, hammock, doesn't matter to us! Come join in and be part of the fun!
However, everyone coming to the event MUST sign up beforehand by emailing skoolieup@gmail.com. If your name is not on our registration list when you arrive, you will not be allowed to attend.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
When is Skoolie U.P.?
This 10 day event takes place around the first week of August every summer. This year, the official dates are August 1-11, 2025.
Where is it located?
Newberry, Michigan. Please register via email to receive exact location details.
Is Skoolie U.P. free?
No. Everyone attending needs to pay for a campsite, which is $40 per night for rustic boondocking. There is the option to prepay for your rustic spot at a discounted price of $35 per night if paid by August 1st.
Most of the activities are completely free. There will be lots of giveaways. Bingo costs 50 cents a card for ages 18+. Kids are free. And we will have other various goodies available for sale throughout the event.
Is there wifi?
No. But there is decent Verizon & AT&T service. If you have a starlink, I do suggest bringing it. Much of the U.P. doesn't have cell signal at all.
Can I arrive early? Or stay late?
No. However, if you need help finding a place to stay outside of the event times, let us know. We know the U.P. very well.
Is there a water fill or a dump station?
No dump station, but we can do a water fill. There is a dump station with a water fill located at the Kewadin Casino in St Ignace & Sault Ste Marie, both nearby.
Can I sell my stuff while there?
Yes. We do understand that travelers make money this way, therefore, feel free to set a table out by your rig anytime during the event. We will also open the event to the general public for a few hours on Saturday.
Are generators allowed?
Yes. Generators are allowed. We will create a parking area specifically for generators. And a separate area for solar power.
Are pets allowed?
Yes. There will be an area where you can take your well behaved dogs off the leash and let them run, but for everyone's safety, we ask that they remain leashed unless in the dog run area.
Is this event family friendly?
Yes. Lots of activities, games, prizes, food, & so much more!
Are bus tours allowed?
Yes, but please be considerate. Many of these are our homes. Upon arrival, you will receive a welcome packet with a sign that says "open for tours". Please use accordingly so that everyone is comfortable.
